Description

On December 13, 1798, the Kentucky General Assembly gave the green light to create Livingston County, named after Robert R. Livingston of New York, a key player in drafting the Declaration of Independence. Fast forward to 1811, when the steamboat revolutionized travel along the Cumberland and Ohio rivers. This invention turned Livingston County into a bustling river port and a popular pit stop for travelers. The county's colorful past is packed with intriguing tales—from the notorious Ford’s Ferry gang and the dreadful Harpes to the chilling story of a slave murdered by one of Thomas Jefferson’s relatives. These stories and images still bring the county’s history to life today.
